Golfing GaloreWhat do you get when you combine almost ten months of the year with no rain, a landscape that is, for the most part, totally flat, and hardly any winter at all? You get a perfect place for golf courses and resorts to be developed, and it just so happens that Arizona meets all of those conditions perfectly. In fact, Arizona is probably one of the most popular golf destinations in the world, if not the most popular. Golf every day for a year, and you’ll still have more courses to cover next season! And that really is no exaggeration. Ingenious entrepreneurs in Arizona have been developing golf courses in this man made paradise for decades, and the number of courses just keeps on growing. And the quantity certainly doesn’t come at the price of quality; the almost all of the courses are of very high quality, and many of them are truly exceptional. In the “exceptional” category lie the golf courses that have been designed by world class golf professionals and recognized course designers. These courses include a dozen or so that were designed and have been golfed by golf’s Great One, Jack Nicklaus. Some of these courses have surprisingly low green fees, although membership into the clubs and lessons are fairly exclusive. In addition to courses designed for the very best golfers, Arizona offers a very wide diversity and anyone is sure to find a course that suits their taste. There are courses where electric golf carts are prohibited, and courses that are specially designed to accommodate the physically challenged golfer. Ladies’ courses and courses for beginners are also in abundance. You can even take a swing or 180 on a few of the incredible 27 hole golf courses that dot the state. Golf as a lifestyleMany of the golf courses in Arizona, and all of the world class courses, allow those interested in moving to Arizona who love golf the chance of a lifetime: to literally live, eat and breathe golf. These courses include private and exclusive communities that have property right on the greens. Perfect for those considering retirement, these communities are also great for the working golfer; want to play a game of 18 holes before work? Well, that might be the perfect time, before the heat sets in on many of the courses in the state. For the most part, even the heat won’t deter golfers from enjoying a day on a green in Arizona. Not necessarily because golfers can take any temperature, but because many courses are located in close proximity to Arizona mountain ranges and at higher elevations than competitors, and that can mean a temperature difference of up to ten degrees during the desert summer months. ![]() |
